So Excited for Haunted Houses!

I haven’t been since I was 16.  I saw this story about them and I seriously cannot wait.

Women For Beer: Bob's 47 (Boulevard Brewery, Kansas City)

womenforbeer:

I had to begin with a hometown brewery - Boulevard. This brewery is most well-known for their Boulevard Wheat Beer, which is sold all over bars in Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, and other Midwestern states. However, after attending their brewery tour last weekend, I have to say that Bob’s 47 is…

YUM!  Boulevard!

Farmin’!

I spent the weekend in Marshfield, MO.  I know, I had never heard of it either.  Apparently it’s a small town just northeast of Springfield.  What is there to do, you ask?  Not a whole lot.  BUT it was a lot of fun.  A list of things we did:

1.  Drank

2.  Played beer pong

3.  Sat around a fire

4.  Went fishing

5.  Ate

6.  Fourwheeled

7.  Fed the catfsh

8.  Watching lightning bugs burrow into the pond banks - I had no idea they did that!

9.  Played yard bocce

10.  Drove a looooooooooong way back to KC

Farming is fun!  I’ll admit I felt dirty the whole time I was there.  You can only stand so much farm dirt flying around as you fourwheel and ride in the back of a pickup.  But it was an experience and a really fantastic time.  I even got to see the local market which sadly, had no fishing worms so we had to use liver instead.  WHAT?  Fish eat liver?  Who knew.

“I fly very low on the radar,” says Hamm. “Mark Twain said it: ‘I’d rather say nothing and be thought an idiot than open my mouth and remove all doubt.’ Another Missouri boy, Mark Twain. The petulant, shitty movie-star mentality - that burns out pretty quick.”

People Are Stupid.

So a few weeks ago I bought a car.  A grueling, necessary task for anyone moving to the Midwest.  Overall it was pretty horrible but there was one specific thing that bothered me more than everything else.  Jason and I would go to a lot and look around as the sales guy talked to us.  Then he would, of course, ask Jason what he did for a living.  Afterwards, he would look at me and say one of the following:

1.  Nothing.

2.  “Oh and Jennifer, do you work?”

This is AFTER I had repeatedly told the asshole that I, not Jason, was purchasing the vehicle.  How in the hell do you think I can afford to buy a fucking car if I don’t have a job?  Do we really live in a society where it assumed that a woman’s work is optional?  Why are men required to work and women are not?  And even if it is the archaic concept that men should work while women stay home with the kids (That reminds me that Mad Men starts this Sunday - YAY!) then when did it become unacceptable to ask what a woman does with her life?  Or are we too fragile to assume we have a life outside of Jesus and family?

Fuck it.

Oh, and I bought a Nissan Sentra.  The sales guy there was really cool.

GOING TO SEE BEN FOLDS THIS WEEKEND!

Awesome.

That is all.

As A Newly Instituted Missourian,

I am attending my first float trip this weekend.  http://www.nrocanoe.com/

Should be a good time, I have never been “floating” and I haven’t camped since I was a little kid.  I bought some watersocks from Target and I’m all set with some boxed wine so I think all my bases are covered.

Thank God I can swim well!!

Things I Love About Missouri Thus Far

1.  My clothes smell like fabric softener, not laundermat.

2.  The ducks that were on my jogging path this morning.  They slowed me down, but they made me happy.

3.  Dishwashers.

4.  A whole aisle in the grocery store dedicated to frozen pizza.

5.  Giant apartments.

6.  Lightning bugs!

7.  Liquor and wine in grocery stores, not just liquor stores.

8.  French-named cities with a Midwestern pronunciation.  Example:  Versailles (Ver-Sails)

9.  Swimming pools.

10.  My family.  :)
